Bagham Barn Antiques is home to one of the largest collections of fine antique furniture, collectables and art in Kent. Situated in a beautifully restored 17th century barn in the heart of rural Chilham, just five miles from Canterbury, the barn offers an unrivalled choice of outstanding quality antiques and collectables.

The barn was established in 2002 by Peggy Boyd, a local businesswoman with a life-long interest in antiques, and her husband Roger, whose vision was to create a place to showcase fine quality antiques alongside a full restoration and design service, in an authentic and attractive barn setting.

The first step in achieving the dream involved rescuing a dilapidated barn and gently bringing it back to life to create a fitting backdrop for the collection.  This was a painstaking task, as the grand old structure had slipped into ruin and was at the time being used to store car parts.  Undeterred by the slow and often frustrating process, Peggy restored the barn to its original condition, working with a team of craftsmen to preserve the exposed old beams, brickwork and the dramatic vaulted high ceilings, and restoring the hop press and the barn’s grand old staircase.  A labour of love perhaps, but one which befitted the recreation of the barn as the perfect setting for an antiques and restoration business.

Now, the barn boasts over 4,500 square feet of fine antique furniture stunningly presented in room size displays.   Small antiques and collectables sit alongside rare period furniture and fine English antiques dating from the 1750’s right up until the 1920’s, with styles and prices to suit everyone’s taste and pocket.   There is an impressive choice of fine silver, clocks, art, porcelain, jewellery, militaria, books, coins and notes as well as antique garden accessories and a small toy collection. The newest arrival to the line-up is the Iconic 20th C Design Studio specialising in deco and modern design.

A team of craftsmen and antique specialists is always on hand to help guide customers through their purchases, or simply provide advice, and the barn also offers a complete restoration service for clocks and furniture, including polishing, rushing and caning.

‘My goal in setting up Bagham Barn was to create ‘antiques for living’, somewhere you’ll find a fantastic choice of really outstanding quality antiques, beautifully displayed in sympathetic surroundings, to suit your home and style, no matter what that is, with seamless good service to match,” says Peggy.

“We’ve worked hard to create just the right environment – one which is immediately welcoming and relaxing, where you can browse a superb collection of fine quality antiques in easily viewable displays and get expert advice.

“With the new additions to the barn, we have such a variety of antiques and 20th century pieces, it becomes a compulsory call not just for interior designers and the style conscious but for anyone looking for a small piece of decorative antique furniture for their modern home.

”Bagham Barn Antiques is on Canterbury Road, adjacent to Chilham Railway station, with ample car parking and a tea shop serving hot and cold food and light refreshments.
